At Innovative Sensory Center, we offer a range of sensory based activities that are designed to promote sensory exploration and development. Our structured play sessions are coordinated by a special education teacher with a significant background in sensory processing disorders and sensory strategies. The activities incorporate all parts of the sensory system in a variety of activities that are suitable for all abilities. We offer sessions for typically developing children, as well as those with mild disabilities. In addition, we provide more play sessions with parental involvement for children with intensive needs, as well as young adults with disabilities. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where individuals can explore their senses and develop their cognitive skills and motor skills in a fun and meaningful way.

Structured, Sensory Based Play Is Calming and Regulating!

SENSORY PLAY

Sensory-based play and exploration can be a powerful tool in promoting healthy brain and physical development for children and young adults of all abilities. By engaging in activities that stimulate the senses, such as touch, smell, taste, sight, sound, as well as their vestibular system (movement) and proprioceptive system (deep pressure), individuals can improve their cognitive and motor skills, as well as regulate their sensory systems.

For typically developing children, sensory play can help with language and social development, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It can also provide a fun and engaging way to learn about the world around them.

For children with disabilities, sensory play can be especially beneficial. For example, children with autism spectrum disorder may have sensory processing difficulties, and sensory play can help them regulate their sensory systems, reduce anxiety, and improve communication and social skills. Children with physical disabilities may benefit from sensory-based activities that promote the development of motor skills and coordination.

Young adults with disabilities can also benefit from sensory-based play and exploration. It can provide a fun and engaging way to stay active and promote physical health, as well as improve cognitive skills and emotional regulation.

Overall, sensory-based play and exploration is a valuable tool for individuals of all abilities. By promoting healthy brain and physical development and regulating the sensory system, it can help children and young adults reach their full potential and lead happy, healthy lives.
